Capitol Day is a great field trip for students and teacher alike! It provides an important opportunity for home educators to better understand the legislative process in Ohio and how we can positively affect this system. This event is also a wonderful way to fulfill some of the history requirements for your school year!

Come and enjoy engaging speakers, special Statehouse tours, a legislative update with Melanie Elsey, an interactive Scavenger Hunt for all our guests, give-aways and more! All students will also receive a beautiful certificate to commemorate the day and their participation.

Capitol Day FAQ

Meet Some of Our Capitol Day Presenters...

State Representative, Jena Powell

State Representative Jena Powell is serving her first term in the Ohio House of Representatives after being elected in 2018. She represents the 80th District, which encompasses Miami County, as well as a portion of Darke County.

As a homeschool graduate, Representative Powell is dedicated to ensuring that more of Ohio’s young people choose to build their lives and pursue opportunities in communities like the 80th District. She knows first-hand how capricious government regulations and misguided tax policies can burden business and get in the way of promoting the good jobs and healthy economy that are necessary to accomplish this goal.

State Board of Education, Sarah Fowler

Sarah Fowler has served on the Ohio State Board of Education since 2013.  Sarah has opposed many bureaucratic policies, fulfilling her campaign promises to support parental direction of their children’s education and local control of Ohio’s public schools.

As the first homeschool graduate to ever serve on a State Board of Education, Sarah  is an ardent supporter of parental involvement in their children’s education, local control of public schools, and individual choice of the best education option for each child. She strives to view each discussion and vote through the lenses of impact on the family and local school districts.

Historical Reenactor, Bill Foley

Bill’s family is originally from York, Pennsylvania, which is just outside of Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

At an early age, Gettysburg was the spark that ignited the flame to his interest and passion in American Civil War history. Since that time, Bill has spent endless hours visiting historic American sites and battlefields like: Manassass, Shiloh, Fredericksburg, Antietam, Gettysburg, Chickamauga, Appomattox Court House to name only a few.

Bill’s first job as a pre-teen was working at the original Gettysburg National Military Park Visitor Center.

Bill is an active member of the National Civil War Museum and a member of the National Civil War Battlefield Preservation Trust. You don’t want to miss this exciting presentation!!
