Join us at the Statehouse
on Thursday, October 24, 2024!

Start your homeschool year off right and head to the Statehouse on October 24th for a fun
and educational event hosted by Christian Home Educators of Ohio!

Capitol Day is a great field trip for students and teacher alike! It provides an important opportunity for home educators to better understand the legislative process in Ohio and how we can positively affect this system. This event is also a wonderful way to fulfill some of the history requirements for your school year!

Come and enjoy engaging speakers, Statehouse tours, legislative updates with Melanie Elsey, an interactive Scavenger Hunt for all our guests, giveaways and more! All students will also receive a beautiful certificate to commemorate the day and their participation.

We hope to see you in October!

Legislative Liaison, Melanie Elsey

Melanie Elsey has been on staff with CHEO since 1994. Over the years she has been instrumental in safe-guarding the rights of families to freely home educate. Having formerly taught in the public schools, she left the classroom to focus on home educating her (now grown) children.

In addition to her work with CHEO, Melanie serves as the National Legislative Director for the American Policy Roundtable and is a Panelist on The Public Square® radio broadcast. She can be heard weekly on The Public Square® radio program, co-hosted by Dave Zanotti and Wayne Shepherd.

Melanie lives in Uniontown, Ohio with her husband, John.

Malone University

We are thankful for the support from Malone University and excited for families to learn more about their campus and programs.

Historical Interpreter, Jeff Sanders

Jeff has a B.A. in history, two master’s degrees in theology/biblical languages, and a doctorate. He has served many roles in his career, from missionary, pastor, college professor, teacher, and chaplain.

For over 40 years, Jeff has enjoyed teaching families the story of liberty as a historical interpreter. Having been raised in the South and with ancestors who fought in the  Civil War, he has focused his attention on historical reenactment in that time period.

Jeff and his wife homeschooled all their children – who are now grown and have children of their own. His favorite hobbies are martial arts, learning foreign languages, telling true stories about faith and courage, making people laugh, and spending time with his family.
