Pending: Ohio House Civil and Commercial Law Committee
HB 371 would repeal the terms "abused", "neglected", and
"dependent"; children in major sections of Ohio's civil code and create a new
category – "a child in need of protective services". This shift in core terms in state law will affect every Ohio family with minor children, because it will clearly broaden the net cast by child protective service agencies to justify an increase in the state's intervention into the home.

Hills Homeschoolers [SHHS] is an open homeschooling support group in the
Central Ohio, Licking County area. This group is an outreach ministry of
Spring Hills Baptist Church in Granville, Ohio, and follows all of this
church’s Articles of Faith. The membership includes families who are
educating some or all of their children at home.
Through
the collective knowledge and experience of the membership, SHHS provides a
variety of resources that helps to enhance the homeschooling experience.
Members are empowered by means of being encouraged to connect with Jesus
Christ, with each other, and with home schooling resources, grow in
their connection with Jesus Christ and each other; and serve each other
by sharing their gifts, abilities, and knowledge or experience through a SHHS team, event, or an
online discussion.
Group
members also have opportunities for participation in organized events such as
co-ops, field trips, and other group activities. SHHS families represent
many communities, educational styles, and church affiliations. We welcome all
families who desire to support each other as we undertake the joyous and
challenging task of educating our children at home!
The
guiding verses for SHHS are the following:
Isaiah 33:6: He
(the LORD) will be the sure foundation for your times, a rich store of salvation
and wisdom and knowledge; the fear of the LORD is the key to
this treasure. (NIV)
Colossians 2:2-3: My goal is that they will be encouraged and knit
together by strong ties of love. I want them to have full confidence because
they have complete understanding of God's secret plan, which is Christ
himself. In him, lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and
knowledge. (NLT)

Group Size:
Approximately 40 Families
Group Description:
We have and welcome families with
any/all ages. Our main goals are to support and encourage those who are
considering taking the step of faith to homeschool their children and to
support & encourage those who are already homeschooling to stay the course
and finish the race. We gather once a month at our scheduled meeting
but we are available to help and support each other as well as new people by
phone or email any time and we have often set up small group meetings to offer
support/encouragment/prayer to a member with a specific need. Our regular
monthly meeting time is for dads as well as moms (babysitting is offered
for a small fee). We have in the past offered co-op classes but this is
not our main focus and is a year to year decision. We have a leadership
team but we are member-driven meaning that members are encouraged to organize
events and activities. Some of the activities we have offered in the
past are family events, sports activities, moms
gatherings, father/child gatherings, teen gatherings, holiday
events, park play days, field trips, co-op classes, a yearly
display of children's projects, an informational open house for prospective
homeschoolers, prayer meetings, and group testing. We welcome member's
ideas for things the group can do.
