Real Purpose of Home Education To
What Purpose? Do
you ever feel like your life is on autopilot?
Daily, you go through the motions of “living” without knowing what
direction you are headed, let alone what goal you are attempting to achieve.
I would have to say that most of our culture lives in this mode.
They don’t have a true assurance of where they will end up so they live
each day for itself. Their motto is
“eat, drink and be happy; for tomorrow we may die”.
I
am currently listening to a video training series, titled “Dynamic
Communications workshop” by Ken Davis. Did
you know that you could be a powerful, charismatic public speaker and still be a
poor communicator? This video is
giving me several positive tools to become a better communicator.
I have also had significant training in strategic planning directed
toward organizations. As
I have pondered the content of these subjects, one common thread weaves it’s
way throughout that stands out to me. That
thread is PURPOSE! In the
communicator’s video training, the key word is “objective” and answers the
question of why and defines the purpose of your talk. In strategic planning, your mission statement is your
purpose. It defines why your
organization is in existence. The
Westminster Catechism asks the question “Why do we exist” and sets forth the
answer “To glorify God and to enjoy Him forever”. God
has given each of us a desire for accomplishment and purpose.
We are a goal-oriented people. We
are not placed on this earth just to take up space and live our lives as we see
fit. To the ungodly, this striving
for purpose manifests itself in the accumulation of possessions or the thirst
for power. For those of us who have accepted Christ as Savior, He has
filled that void but our sense of purpose is not diminished. Through the leading of the Holy Spirit, God works through us
to accomplish His work on earth. As
you begin this new school year, I would encourage you to seek for and recognize
the real purpose in your decision to home educate your children.
God is working through you to do His good will in your life.
Be faithful to His calling. Take
the time to focus on both your personal and family objectives.
What do you want to accomplish this year? Why? What is
your purpose? Sit down with your
spouse and develop a mission statement. Then,
when you are discouraged in the coming year, you can pull out that mission
statement and remind yourself of your goals.
Recognize that God is continuing His work in your life and in the lives
of your family. May
God bless your faithfulness in this coming year as you walk the path He has laid
before you. Bruce
